Funded Mental Health Stepped Care Services (via Connect to Wellbeing)

Currently Wakai Waian Healing are offering funded Psychological Therapy services for low income / financially disadvantaged people with a non-acute moderate mental health condition who would benefit from short-term goal-focused psychological strategies.

Services can be in provided face to face within our private and confidential offices, via outreach, or via telephone or videoconferencing methods. 

Our trusted team specialises in delivering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services however we also accept referrals from across all cultural back grounds and identities.

Our team acknowledge the right of consumers to receive confidential services where their information is kept private and secure.

Our service encourages the involvement of carers and support people.

Eligibility

While Wakai Waian Healing specialising in delivering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services it accepts referrals across all cultural back grounds and identities. Wakai Waian Healing as a community focused organisations seeks to promote access to quality services particularly for vulnerable individual  couples and families. Wakai Waian Healing does adopt a priority focus for the following groups of people;

  • Rural and remote residents;
  • People from Culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • People who are members of the LGBTI community
  • Women with Perinatal Depression
  • People who are financially disadvantaged
  • People who Victims of Domestic Violence
  • People who are or at risk of being homeless

To access this service the referred person must have a Pension Card, Health Care Card or Low Income Health Care Card.*

*Eligibility Exceptions Include:

  • If the person has recently lost employment but does not yet have the required documentation.
  • If the person is experiencing domestic violence and is unable to access bank accounts.
  • If the person has experienced an environmental disaster, such as flood or drought.
  • If the referrer believes the person to be experiencing exceptional financial circumstances. In this case, a letter demonstrating this should accompany the Connect to Wellbeing Referral Form.

Understanding the Connect To Wellbeing Referral Process
  • When a referral comes to Connect to Wellbeing from a GP, our intake staff will validate the referral and schedule an appointment for the consumer to talk with a clinician to undertake an assessment.
  • A Connect to Wellbeing clinician will then contact the individual to determine their needs as well as relevant and available support services.
  • Where the eligibility requirements are met, the person will be contacted within three days and an initial appointment will be offered within two weeks.
  • For referrals to Suicide Prevention Services, the person will be contacted within 24 hours (business days) of the date of referral and offered an appointment with a provider within 72 hours.
  • Connect to Wellbeing will provide GPs with updates and information about a referral as it is actioned and received by service providers.
  • Providers of Psychological Therapies will continue to provide a review / feedback at the completion of allocated sessions.
